CyberGhost Review

CyberGhost VPN Download

After the arrival of COVID-19, we know there is a huge hike in internet usage. As a result, it became a treat for web hackers. There is a noticeable increase in the cybercrime rate. Thus, VPN is a popular tool in 2021. So you may wonder what is VPN? Let me tell you that. The term “VPN” stands for Virtual Private Network. As the name suggests, VPNs are a secure way of accessing the internet and keeping your connection private.

VPNs establish a virtual point-to-point connection between your device and the internet, sending your data through an encrypted tunnel. And they’re more important than ever for your digital privacy. With the use of a VPN, you can actually mask your IP address, which will make you invisible to web hackers.

When you surf the internet, your Internet Service Provider (ISP) gives your devices an IP. This IP address uniquely identifies your device and allows it to send and receive information. It’s almost like your digital address. Regular internet connections are not encrypted. So, without a VPN, your ISP, your government, and everyone else snooping know what you do online.

If you search for a VPN, the internet is going to offer you will tons of VPN names. But the question is, which one of these is actually trustable and secure. So today, I am going to review a popular VPN called “CyberGhost”. Without any further ado, let’s begin the CyberGhost VPN Review.

CyberGhost VPN Overview

What is CyberGhost VPN?

CyberGhost VPN is a Romanian-based VPN provider. They’ve been around for seven years, were acquired just a few years back, and have continued to grow into one of the largest VPN providers. They pack all of the features you’d come to expect, such as AES 256-bit encryption and OpenVPN (along with other optional tunnelling protocols like IPSec). Their pricing structure is also quite cheap, very similar to NordVPN. This CyberGhost VPN Review is about all of the CyberVPN Features, CyberGhost VPN pros and cons we’ve discovered after multiple rounds of testing. Also, we would look into whether Cyberghost VPN for China actually works.

In short, with the use of CyberGhost VPN, you can:

  1. Hide your IP and surf anonymously online
  2. Protect your digital identity
  3. Break all geo-restrictions
  4. Unblock websites
  5. Torrent anonymously
  6. Protect your connections on public Wi-Fis

Reason To Choose CyberGhost VPN

1. Mask Your IP Address

Whether you realize it or not, your IP address can reveal a lot more information about you( Like Country, Region, City, ZIP code, Longitude, Latitude) than you’d normally be willing to share with the world. By keeping it masked not only will you obtain total online anonymity, but you’ll also get to experience true online freedom on the web.

With the use of CyberGhost VPN, you can hide your IP address and replace it with one from our network. with just a Click. You can easily spoof your location and make it impossible for websites to track your online activity.

2. Strongest Encryption

It is very simple for your Internet Service Provider to screen your online activities and your browsing habits. Furthermore, in many nations, ISPs even have the lawful commitment to store their logs on clients for as long as two years.

But CyberGhost VPN servers are designed with privacy and security. This VPN provides you with 256-bit military-grade encryption at all times. Besides, CyberGhost VPN have many protocols available to ensure your online anonymity is never jeopardized.

3. Wifi Protection

It is very common for us to connect to free public wifi. We don’t think for a second before we do connect to an unknown free wi-fi network. Then let me tell you that Cybercriminals are keeping an eye on Wi-Fi. You might think you’re connecting to your place of business, but you’re actually connecting a soft access point, set up by a cybercriminals. Your information can be stolen, or you could end up getting malicious software in your system.

The CyberGhost VPN apps are configured to give you the highest privacy standards. Every bit of your data is sealed behind the 256-AES military-grade encryption protocol. CyberGhost VPN subscription lets you protect up to 7 devices at the same time.

4. No Log Policy

A no-log policy of a VPN means that the virtual private network provider does not collect, or “log,” any information transmitted through the network. They don’t save information about your personal details, where you go online, what you download, or what you search for.

According to the privacy policies of CyberGhost VPN, they don’t track your activity over the internet, and also make sure nobody can snoop on your digital life. They claim to have no idea of what you do online after you connect to one of our servers, or how much bandwidth you’re using.

5. Global Server Coverage

With over 7100 servers in 89+ countries, CyberGhost VPN gives you blazing fast speeds and unlimited bandwidth. While using CyberGhost VPN services, you will face no buffering, throttling from your Internet Service Provider or proxy errors with our VPN connection. Currently, CyberGhost VPN is providing 7118 servers all across the globe.

6. Supports Multiple Platform

CyberGhost VPN supports multiple platforms like Windows, macOS, iOS, Android, fireTV, Android TV, Apple TV, Smart TV, Game Console and Linux. Besides that CyberGhost VPN also offers Browser extension like Cybeghost VPN Chrome Extension and CyberGhost VPN Firefox Browser Extension.

7. Anti-Censorship

The web was established on the thoughts of opportunity and freedom. But sadly, it isn’t the case now. Because of shifting political environments and force using copyright holders, your online experience will regularly change from one country to another. The purported “splinternet” is getting progressively more observable among web clients.

But if countries like China or Russia came to your mind, you’ll be surprised to hear that they’re not the only ones striving for digital control. Other less authoritarian countries also control your internet experience, by imposing blocks and bans through ISPs and other means.

You have surely noticed that popular torrent sites are being blocked across most countries or that social media bans are increasingly common during times of political unrest, this is still a cause for concern. Censorship is growing more prevalent these days.

CyberGhost VPN servers have been optimized to break through all filters and are configured to offer the best censorship-free experience for you. With more than 7000 servers in over 90 countries at your disposal, you can always browse the internet freely and securely with CyberGhost VPN.

8. Dedicated IPs

With Dedicated IPs, you secure your remote connections to any asset with a dedicated IP from a country of your choice. During your subscription, this IP will be yours and yours alone, protecting your data transfers with the strongest encryption out there.

After selecting your desired location from your newly created account, your dedicated IP token will be generated for you. For security reasons, this token will only be visible once before redeeming it.

Some of the available locations for Dedicated IPs is:

  • CA, Montreal
  • DE, Berlin
  • DE, Frankfurt
  • FR, Paris
  • GB, London
  • GB, Manchester

Advantages And Disadvantages Of CyberGhost VPN

CyberGhost VPN Review- Advantages Of CyberGhost VPN

1. Strict No-Logging Policy

Many VPN providers advertise “zero-logging.” Yet, when you dig into the fine print buried in their Terms of Service, you realize just how far from the truth this claim is. Many VPN companies do log your data, and while it is typically for the benign purpose of improving their services, one of the biggest reasons to invest in a VPN is to limit intrusions on your privacy. This doesn’t exactly work if the intrusive third party happens to be your own VPN provider.

Luckily, CyberGhost doesn’t waiver on their logging policy. This is a big positive factor that we must highlight in this CyberGhost VPN Review.

2. No Leaks Detected

There’s a lot to love about CyberGhost. If you were to make a checklist of everything you want out of a VPN, CyberGhost has ALL of them. No info is logged. Their Romanian jurisdiction protects users. CyberGhost VPN for Netflix works. As do torrenting. It’s even compatible with TOR and other proxy services. When we tried this program out, we loved it. There’s a reason it’s listed as number four on our list of the top VPNs in the world. The cherry on top of an already impressive sundae of awesomeness is the fact that this is an airtight leak-free system. We put CyberGhost through the wringer on several occasions and we found that our original IP was completely protected.

3. Great User Experience and Easy Installation

One of the biggest competitive advantages that this VPN has that needs mention in this CyberGhost VPN Review is its ease of use. It took me a total of about 5 minutes to install, launch and use CyberGhost on my Windows device. And based on feedback from other users, this experience is pretty consistent regardless of the device you are using. Once you are inside of CyberGhost’s software, the usability gets even

The layout is crisp and clean and things are so clearly spelled out that even your grandparents
could use it. In fact, CyberGhost has a feature that allows users to automatically launch a
secured private browser with only the click of a button. So easy user interface also needs to be mentioned in this CyberGhost VPN Review.

4. Compatible with TOR (and most other proxies)

The Orion Router (or TOR) is an anonymous network that relays your data through various servers so it’s virtually impossible to see who you are or where you’re from. Depending on the country from which you are surfing, the ability to layer your VPN with the TOR network can, quite literally, be a lifesaver. Fortunately, CyberGhost VPN is TOR compatible. This allows users to get as close to total anonymity as possible and is a huge bonus for any VPN users located in countries with strict censorship laws.

5. CyberGhost VPN For Netflix and Torrenting

While many VPNs shy away from actively promoting the ability to torrent/P2P on their servers, CyberGhost is not among them. Not only does CyberGhost allow torrenting, but it’s also one of their main selling points. After you launch CyberGhost’s software, you will notice a purple box in the lower left-hand corner of the interface titled “Ghost Downloads.

Upon further investigation, you will see that this feature is used to “Download Torrents using untraceable servers automatically selected for you.” Much to their credit, CyberGhost has done everything in their power to make torrenting easy and seamless.

Cyberghost VPN For Netflix has dedicated a unique streaming server that keeps changing its IP address whenever Netflix tries to crack it down. Servers unblocking Netflix are the United States and Canada whereas Cyberghost VPN for Netflix servers blocked by Netflix in the United Kingdom and the Netherlands.

5. Seven Device Connection Limit

CyberGhost used to only offer a one-device connection limit, even for some premium users, prior to their purchase by Robert Knapp and Crossrider Limited. Thankfully, that was one of the first positive changes they made. Most of the VPNs I have reviewed will allow at least three simultaneous. Initially, CyberGhost bumped up their connection number to five, which was a huge improvement. But we’re happy to report that, as of April of 2021, CyberGhost has increased its limit even further to seven devices — regardless of the plan that you are using. This is a welcomed improvement that opens up many doors for the average user.

6. Live Chat Customer Service

Cyberghost-customer-support-chat is a great feature that requires mention in this CyberGhost VPN Review. It serves as a quick chat with their customer representative. Good customer service is hard to find in the VPN world. It shouldn’t be. It’s not necessarily that difficult or anything. But the vast majority are (1) slow or (2)
terrible or (3) both. When I first used the CyberGhost VPN, it’s fair to say that I was not a huge fan of their customer support system. It was glitchy and borderline unusable. CyberGhost has made some recent advancements in this field and it pays off in droves. For starters, they’ve added a live chat. Not like a takes-one-hour- to-respond live chat. But fast, instantaneous messaging. Anyone needing help needs to just click on the chat box in the lower right-hand corner of their screen.

7. Supports Multiple Platform

CyberGhost VPN supports multiple platforms like Windows, macOS, iOS, Android, fireTV, Android TV, Apple TV, Smart TV, Game Console and Linux. Besides that CyberGhost VPN also offers Browser extension like Cybeghost VPN Chrome Extension and CyberGhost VPN Firefox Browser Extension.

CyberGhost VPN Review- Disadvantages Of CyberGhost VPN

1. Questionable Parent Company

To start with the bad side of our CyberGhost VPN review, let’s just say, their background check doesn’t come clean. Let’s look at what I mean by this. As with any product on the market, you have to look up the company behind a VPN so you know just what to expect. CyberGhost was sold to Kape Technologies (formerly known as Crossrider Plc), an Israeli based ad tech company infamous for creating and distributing Malware.

It didn’t take me long to find articles warning the public about the malware still being spread by Kape Technologies. Malwarebytes even posted an article on how to remove Crossrider malware. Clearly, you can’t trust this company with your data. This irony was not lost on CyberGhost itself. After the buyout, CyberGhost’s CEO himself admitted that both companies had opposing goals.

CyberGhost seeks to protect user data and privacy as a VPN. Crossrider seeks to gain user data to make money as an ad tech company. Ironic, right? I also found out that the re-branding from Crossrider to Kape Technologies was actually a very sneaky move. Kape CEO Ido Ehrlichman actually admitted that the decision to re-brand was due to “the strong association to the past activities of the company”.

Long story short, CyberGhost’s parent company can’t be trusted — and they know it.

2. Not the Fastest VPN

Whenever you are in the market for a ‘Budget VPN’ you can and should expect to suffer through some slower download and upload times. Unfortunately for CyberGhost, unless you are using a free service, you should never have to deal with slow speeds.

US Server (New York)

Ping: 189ms
Download: 18.41 Mbps
Upload: 7.12 Mbps

EU Server (Amsterdam)

Ping: 41ms
Download: 51.10 Mbps
Upload: 21.10 Mbps

Asia Server (Hong Kong)

Ping: 299ms
Download: 4.00 Mbps
Upload: 4.07 Mbps

UK Server (London)

Ping: 69ms
Download: 5.63 Mbps
Upload: 15.65 Mbps

In short, while CyberGhost speeds are nothing to brag about. If we talk about speed in this CyberGhost VPN review, they are ranked somewhere in the middle of the pack.

3. Alleged Security Concerns

The final problem that I found with CyberGhost is an alleged security concern that has popped up since early 2016. While there has been a significant amount of controversy surrounding CyberGhost’s root certificates and the possibility that their “No Logging” policy is not actually upheld, so far, my findings on this topic have been inconclusive. Most of the issues that have surfaced were quickly resolved or explained away by the CyberGhost team.

While I don’t have any real reasons to suspect CyberGhost of foul play or believe that there have been any breaches in their privacy agreement, there were simply too many allegations to let this particular point slide.

CyberGhost VPN Security Protocols

Is CyberGhost VPN Safe To Use?

Security is a key area of discussion if you are talking about a VPN. CyberGhost VPN uses some of the best encryption and security protocols in the market that worth mentioning in this CyberGhost VPN Review. So let me tell you first that Encryption is a method of encoding messages or information so that it is only accessible and readable to authorized parties.

Currently, it is using AES 256-bit encryption. AES is a short form Advanced Encryption Standard. This is a symmetric key encryption cipher, meaning that the same key used to encrypt the data is used to decrypt it locally on your device.

The positive point of AES is that it has been certified by the US National Institute of Standards and Technology as a secure and viable measure for safeguarding data made it popular. Right now, governments and armed forces worldwide use it to protect sensitive national information. So, now you can have a rough idea about the security encryption of CyberGhost VPN.

Now, lets talk about the Security Protocols Of CyberGhost VPN:

OpenVPN (TCP vs. UDP)

OpenVPN is one of the most popular protocols for VPN security. This protocol runs on either the Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) or User Datagram Protocol (UDP) internet protocol. The difference between these 2, is that TCP guarantees the full transmission of data in the correct order at a lower speed. At the same time, UDP transmits the data packages faster, but in doing so, it sacrifices reliability.  OpenVPN is compatible with most platforms and can even be set up on routers.

Internet Key Exchange Version 2 (IKEv2) is the birthchild of Microsoft and Cisco. The goal of this protocol was to deliver a fast, reliable, and secure VPN connection. And indeed, it does. But where IKEv2 truly shines is stability. Since its primary use is for mobile devices, this protocol works miracles at reconnecting whenever a connection is dropped.

The connection speed offered by the IKEv2 protocol is one of the best, thanks to the Network Address Translation-Transversal technique. Another Plus Point Of this protocol is network stability. The IKEv2 protocol relies on a wide selection of high-end cyphers (Camelia, AES, Blowfish), and uses a certificate-based authentication for preventing Man-In-the-Middle (MiM) and Denial of Service (DoS) attacks.

This the latest Protocol in the market. This protocol is becoming popular because of its elite cryptography, top-notch speed, and ease of implementation, which outperforms OpenVPN and IKEv2. Instead of relying on the industry-standard AES-256 encryption, WireGuard® uses a cryptographic key routing process.

(L2TP)/ IPSec

L2TP stands for Layer to Tunneling Protocol. L2TP does not use any encryption method whatsoever. For that reason, it is paired together with IPSec – so it can provide additional security for your data. L2TP prevents the data from being altered between sender and receiver. As a result, Man-In-the-Middle attacks cannot affect you when using this protocol.

So now, from the above discussion, we can conclude that CyberGhost VPN is safe to use.

TIPS: All in all, L2TP is a good protocol if you’re looking to get good security out of your VPN connection. You can trust it to protect your data when shopping online or checking your banking accounts, but it may frustrate you if you’re going to use it for streaming or torrenting.

Final Verdict

If we judge CyberGhost VPN on the basis of pricing, then most of us will be satisfied in term of features and security. They have the latest security protocols and a well-designed interface that helps its user to get the full potential of the tool. They responded to constructive feedback and have completely turned some aspects around. The live chat and customer service experience we had was like night and day from before.

CyberGhost was always a solid VPN choice. Its strict no-logging policy and Romanian jurisdiction keep your information safe and secure. It provides all of the essential functions of a VPN with a great user experience. Plus, it’s a leak-free system that works with Netflix, TOR, and torrenting services.

Upping their connections to seven simultaneous devices was a breath of fresh air, too. There are a few question marks around their historical performance. Some users have had negative experiences. There might be some alleged security concerns.

But overall, it’s only fair to mention in this CyberGhost VPN Review that this VPn is safe to use. If you are a torrent user, them CyberGhost is just for you and it is highly recommended.

NOTE: Accessing banned websites by using VPN is still illegal. You may face serious Legal problems while doing so.

I hope you have liked my CyberGhost VPN Review. If you have any questions, please leave them in the comment section below. I will be happy to respond.
