Microsoft’s Windows 10 S Mode Review

Microsoft’s Windows 10 S Mode Review

Microsoft’s Windows 10 S Mode Review. There is huge gossip about Microsoft’s Windows 10 in S Mode  This is the newest addition to the Windows 10 operating system, that is exclusively meant for education and study purposes. But it restricts you to download the required apps directly from the app store. And thus it becomes more secure consequently. And to all of our surprise, it is even more secure than main windows 10 OS. In 2018, Windows 10 S was rebranded to S mode by Microsoft due to consumers being confused by multiple versions of Windows 10. S mode is essentially now a mode on devices running either Windows 10 Home or Windows 10 Pro. Now a certain question crops up- whether this is an exclusive thing or same as Windows 10 itself? A laptop or computer running S mode is still running Windows 10, it just doesn’t have the full functionality of the entire operating system.

Let’s Begin Microsoft’s Windows 10 S Mode Review

PROS:

  • The restriction on installing and downloading at times becomes an added benefit, lowering the risk of installing any unwanted computer virus or something like that.
  • Windows 10 in S mode can only run Windows apps downloaded from the Microsoft Store, which prevents numerous background programs from running and slowing down your device. This results in faster start-up times, smoother operation on devices with low processing power, and potentially longer battery life.

CONS:

  • Microsoft Edge is the default web browser.
  • Bing is the default system search engine.
  • The restriction of downloading only from the Microsoft App Store.

Add-Ons:

Gaming:
Video games can be played on a computer running Microsoft’s Windows 10 S or Windows 10 in S mode, however, the title selection is limited to those available in the Microsoft Store app store. So, it is not a game specialist.

Entertainments:
There is no such hindrance in that. Digital movies and TV episodes can be viewed via the usual websites via the Microsoft Edge web browser and in apps such as Netflix and Amazon Video, which can be downloaded from the Microsoft Store.

How to Check You Have Windows 10 S or S Mode on My Computer?

  • Select ‘All Settings’.
  • Select ‘Systems’.
  • Scroll down the left menu and select ‘About’.
  • On the right side of the screen, scroll down this page until you get to Windows specifications. Under this heading, next to Edition, will be the name of the operating system you have installed. If it says Windows 10 Home in S mode or Windows 10 Pro in S mode, you have S mode installed on your device and it’s also currently active.

  1. I bought a cheap notebook and of course it came with Windows 10 S mode. I tried it for a few days and actually if you like Edge with Bing search and don’t have a lot of third party stuff that are not available in the app store and you want extra security of things off the internet not able to install onto your PC. Then I think S mode can work for you. Especially in a place like education or certain enterprise situations where security and limited access is important. But the store is weak with titles and not many third party developers seem interested in this concept. I imagine most end users won’t see S mode as a viable option. Its almost certain they will end up at a point where they can’t run a application from the store and will have to opt out of S mode to install it.
